Greenhouse Gases!

Hi guys! Today we're doing greenhouse gases! Also, we won't be posting next weekend as we are all traveling for winter vacation!

You may have heard about the term 'greenhouse gases' before. If you haven', t we'll be telling you a little more about them, and what they are exactly.

What are greenhouse gases?

Greenhouse gases (also known as GHGs) are gases in the earth's atmosphere that trap heat. During the day, the sun shines through the atmosphere, warming the earth's surface. At night the earth's surface cools, releasing heat back into the air. But some of the heat is trapped by the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

What is the effect of greenhouse gases?

NASA has observed increases in the amount of carbon dioxide and some other greenhouse gases in our atmosphere. Too much of these greenhouse gases can cause Earth's atmosphere to trap more and more heat. This causes Earth to warm up, leading to global warming.

What can we do?

  1. Use Renewable energy.
  2. Purchase Solar Panels for your house or convince your building to install them
  3. Purchase Carbon offsets.
  4. Adjust your thermostat.
  5. Install solar lights.
  6. Use energy-saving light bulbs.

DIY Sunday!

Hi readers! Sorry we couldn't post last week, there were some technical issues! Today, we're doing a DIY Sunday related to Christmas AND nature! Merry Christmas and hope you enjoy!

How to make an origami reindeer:

Steps:

If you want, you can make a small hole at the top, put a string through it, tie a knot to secure, and hang it on your Christmas tree! If you don't want to, you can use it to decorate your house or door to make it look more Christmassy!

Poem(special guest!)!

Hi readers! Today, we're posting a poem made by some third graders in our school for this blog post! Hope you are inspired!

Untitled

Written by The Land Water Legends, Aadya, Arni, Armina, Saira, and Aadya B, students from 3B and A.

Mother Earth's given a birth,

One that is amazing.

But we are not respecting her well,

So it's time to advocate and tell.

That we're making to much plastic,

And taking too much oil

We should we caring,

For the ozone layer we're tearing

Be a good friend,

And to Mother Earth just lend,

A WONDERFUL HELPING HAND!
